Indian Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi beat Oliver Barbosa of Philippines in the Asian individual chess championship in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. India's National women's champion Mary Ann Gomes beat Irine Sukandar Kharisma of Indonesia in the women's championship. In the seventh round Negi made mince meat of higher-ranked Liren Ding of China and then in the eighth round Barbosa had no answers. Mary Ann Gomes also had a perfect seventh round when she beat top seed Zhao Xue of China and then in eighth, she trounced Irine. Besides, in the eighth round, Padmini Rout also defeated Nguyen Thi Thanh An and Eesha Karavade drew with Wang Jue.
