Situation in Jammu and Kashmir has vastly improved and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along-with local Police and other para-military forces have contributed a lot in restoration of peace and normalcy in the State. This was stated by Special Director General of CRPF, J&K Zone, N. K.Tripathi while addressing a press Conference in Jammu today. <br/><br/>He said that in addition to internal security of the J&K State and guarding of Highways and important road links in the State, CRPF also launches counter-insurgency operations on receipt of specific intelligence reports. He assured the visiting pilgrims to Vaishnodevi that with CRPF on the security of the Holy Shrine, their pilgrimage is safe.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent R.K. Raina reports from Jammu that saying that CRPF has become a thoroughly well trained and efficient Force, CRPF Special DG said that this was amply displayed by the incident at Lal Chowk in January this year when the exemplary courage and professionalism shown by the CRPF personnel saw two militants getting eliminated without any civilian getting any harm. He stated that Pakistan is continuing its nefarious designs in the J&K State by trying to disturb peace and to create law and order problem. He said that the efforts of the security forces including CRPF has reduced the vulnerability of common people of the State. <br/><br/>Sh. Tripathi informed that in 2009 , 72 civilians were killed by militants compared to 163 and 90 in 2007 and 2008 respectively. He said that although violent incidents against the Force have come down but added that now the Force has to confront frequent incidents of stone pelting which has resulted in the injuries to nearly 1500 CRPF jawans in the last one and a half year and damage to 373 vehicles. Sh. Tripathi added that CRPF personnel are showing great restraint despite grave provocations by ultras and their supporters but it goes to the credit of the Force that there is no complaint of human rights violations against the Force.
