Palliative care is to be introduced as a subject in medical, nursing curriculum from ensuing academic year. This was disclosed by Dr. Mayilvahanan, Vice-Chancellor of Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University while inaugurating the three-day International conference of Indian Association of Palliative care in Trichy . He said that a lot of technological advances had been achieved in the field of medical sciences to assist in the treatment of reversible diseases and enable people to enjoy a healthy life. The Vice-Chancellor expressed his happiness that a one-year fellowship in Palliative Care would be introduced soon. As per statistics, nearly one million Indians are added to the cancer arena every year, in addition to HIV/AIDS and other incurable medical condition. However, one per cent alone could avail of palliative care.
