Israeli forces have shot dead two Palestinian gunmen who had just infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip. A military spokesperson said in Jerusalem that two gunmen were killed in an exchange of fire between the Israel military and Palestinian gunmen near Southern Israeli villages across the border.Reports say Hamas security officials confirmed that two men were sent on an operation to attack Israel and clashed with soldiers near the border. The border is heavily fortified and militant incursions into Israel are rare.Today's incident followed overnight Israeli air raids which left no casualties. The Israeli Army said the raids were a response to the launching of a Qassam rocket earlier this week. The army said the rocket fell in the Ashkelon region, south of Tel Aviv, without causing any damage. Meanwhile, a high-ranking US delegation has arrived in the Gaza Strip to hold talks with Hamas movement, which rules the enclave. The seven-member delegation, which represents the National Institute for International Reconciliation crossed into the blockaded enclave through Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. The delegation will hold talks with Hamas officials in the frame to congregate views between the Palestinian factions and achieve an inter-Palestinian reconciliation between the rival Palestinian groups.
