Pakistan's upper house of Parliament on Thursday approved the renaming of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) as Khyber-Pkhtunkhwa with majority vote. Official sources said during the voting session 80 percent votes were polled in favor of the name Khyber- Pukhtunkhwa and 12 percent against the name. The 100 members' house approved the name after 14 days of violence and agitation by minority groups that staged protests across Pakistan against the sub-clause of the bill which suggested the renaming. In the northwestern city of Abbottadad, the violence took seven lives over the renaming.
