Pakistan releases 17 Indian prisoners

A day ahead of Indo-Pak talks, Pakistan released 17 Indian prisoners on Wednesday. The prisoners were handed over by Pak rangers to the Indian Authorities at India-Pakistan joint check post at the Attari Border. Of the 17 prisoners, four each hail from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, Six from Rajasthan and One each belong to Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir.<br/><br/>The prisoners were released from Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore , Landi Jail Karachi , Bahavalpur, Ravalpindi and Peshawar. All of them were detained under various cases of border crossing, illegal staying and spying and have completed their imprisonment of 2 to 15 years. The prisoners, who are a happy lot today, appealed to Indo- Pak Governments to release all prisoners on both sides, who had completed their imprisonment.<br/><br/>In the same row Border Security Force handed over to Pak Authorities two young Pakistanis – Abid Ali and Imtiaz Ali, who had strayed into the Indian Territory two days back. BSF, IG. Himmat singh said both had come over to watch the retreat ceremony, but inadvertently strayed into Indian Territory in search of drinking water.
