Riding on a disciplined bowling display, Pakistan defeated a depleted West Indies by five wickets in a low-scoring opening Group A match of the ICC Champions Trophy in Johannesburg yesterday. Pace duo of Mohammad Aamer and Umar Gul picked up three wickets each while off-spinner Saeed Ajmal scalp two victims to demolish the West Indies batting lineup for a modest 133 runs in 34.3 overs. To the disappointment of the Caribbean spectators, only three West Indies batsmen could manage double figures with Nikita Miller top-scoring with 51 off 73 deliveries.In reply, Pakistan were in for some early jolt before Umar Akmal's sensible 41 off 51 deliveries ensured victory for the sub-continent side. Pakistan will next face arch-rivals India in their second encounter of Group A on Saturday.
