Pakistani authorities have detained Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in another case after slapping fresh charges on him. The move comes after the Islamabad High Court yesterday suspended the Pakistan government notification of putting Lakhvi under house arrest after an anti-terrorism court granted him bail. His lawyer, Rezwan Abbasi claimed foul play and termed Lakhvi's detention as manipulation.
India yesterday conveyed its strong concern at the lack of effective action by Pakistan’s prosecuting authorities after the Anti-Terrorism-Court ordered the release of Lakhvi. High Commissioner of Pakistan Abdul Basit was summoned to the External Affairs Ministry by Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh yesterday afternoon.
Ms Singh conveyed that India expects Pakistan to abide by its previous commitment given to New Delhi that expeditious steps will be taken to bring all those responsible for the heinous acts of terrorism in Mumbai to justice.
India said, it is extremely disturbing that despite the assurances given by Pakistan over the last six years and the recent tragedies in neighbouring country, there seems to be no end in sight, to Pakistan remaining a safe haven for well-known terror groups.
