External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Sunday met his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in New York with the progress in the Mumbai terror attack investigations in Pakistan being the "focal point" of their talks. Krishna met Qureshi at the New York Palace hotel on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in the first highest-level contact between the countries since their Prime Ministers met at the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh in July. During his meeting with Qureshi, Mr Krishna has emphasised the need for Pakistan to act speedily against those responsible for the Mumbai attack including its master mind Hafiz Saeed. He said Pakistan has assured for speedy trial of 26/11 Mumbai attack. Mr. Krishna said the meeting was useful and candid. Earlier in a strong message to Pakistan, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said that Islamabad must stop state-sponsored terrorism if they want to normalise relations with India. He said that the Pakistan should give up its old attitude regarding the use of terror as an instrument of state policy. AIR correspondent says, in the light of the statements made by the two countries no break through is expected from the talks. Reports from New York say, Pakistan has been told by US and its allies that it can no longer afford to have two different standards for terrorists, one for those targeting the West and another for the terrorists who use Pakistani soil against India.
