Breaking a brief lull, Pakistan Army violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector last night with a view to push militants into this side. According to official sources Pakistan Army started firing at forward Indian posts of Jungle 3 and MMG Tib in Shahpur Gountrial area on the LoC in Poonch sector at 7.15 pm last night. According to Army sources, Army is going to lodge a strong protest with their counterparts in Pakistan today over unprovoked and heavy firing on the Indian positions. Mortars and heavy machine gun firing by the Pakistan Army continued for more than one and a half hour. However, alert Indian troops effectively retaliated and repulsed the Pak firing thereby foiling the intrusion bid under the garb of Pak firing. Another attempt was made by Pakistan Rangers to push two dreaded militants into Jammu from International Border (IB) at Alla Mai De Kothe along Niki Tawi area in the wee hours yesterday but the bid was also foiled by the security personnel killing one militant and injuring another. Five kg cocaine, which had value worth several crores in the international market along with arms, ammunition and Pakistan SIM cards were recovered from the possession of slain militant indicated a nexus between militants and narcotics smugglers of New Delhi and Mumbai. This is for the first time that militants had been smuggling weapons and cocaine together along with them from Pakistan. According to IG BSF, Jammu Frontier, Siddarth Chattopadhyaya BSF personnel have been directed to keep a strict vigil in the area as the Rangers had activated it for last seven to eight months. He said the BSF jawans were fully alert and would thwart any fresh infiltration attempt by the militants.
