The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who is now in Washington on a 4-day long visit is scheduled to kick off his trip by addressing the US Chamber of Commerce and United States International Business Council (USIBC) on Tuesday. Dr. Singh has a hectic schedule during his stay in Washington during which a number of agreements are likely to be signed between the two countries. The agreements relate to countering terrorism and promoting Indo-U.S.business.<br/>Earlier, Dr. Manmohan Singh was accorded a red carpet welcome at the Andrews Air Force Base. He was received by Indian Ambassador to US Ms. Meera Shankar and other officials. About 100 children from Indian Community with Tricolour in their hands waved at the Prime Minister as he was being received at the Air Base.<br/>The most significant part of the Prime Minister's trip to the US will be his one-on-one meeting with the President Barack Obama on Tuesday. For the first time they will discuss bilateral issues and possibilities of cooperation on key global issues including Pakistan, Afghanistan, terrorism ,climate change and nuclear proliferation. <br/>The Prime Minister has indicated that he would seek a more liberal US technology transfer to India and an early implementation of the Indo-US nuclear deal. Dr Singh is the first foreign dignitary being hosted by Presidnet Barack Obama and it reflects the importance being given by the Obama Adminsitration to India.<br/><br/> AIR correspondents S. Mathias and R.K.aina report from Washington that India attaches ‘high priority’ to its relations with the US and a ‘sustained and dynamic’ partnership between them is essential to meet major global challenges like terrorism, climate change and economic slowdown. The visit of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is aimed at furthering the close ties between the two countries. US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michell would personally welcome Dr. Manmohan Singh and his wife Smt. Gursharan Kaur at the White House on November 24. However, Dr. Singh, would kick-off his trip by addressing the American business community, which is his way of acknowledging their contribution in strengthening of the US-India relationship and in particular their role in the passage of the landmark civilian nuclear deal. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives while welcoming the visit of Dr. Manmohan Singh, has passed a resolution saying that the United States commends the maturing of relationship between the United States and India and looks forward to continuing progress in the relationship.<br/>
