The tripartite meeting among Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US is to be held in Islamabad today. Media reports say the US President Obama’s Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Mark Grossman and Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Jawid Lodin would participate in the talks. Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar would represent Pakistan in the meeting. The issues like US forces pullout from Afghanistan and dialogue with the Taliban would be discussed during the tripartite talks. The meeting is taking place at a time when the United States has begun withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan. Afghan forces have recently taken over security lead in seven areas in the country; however the insurgents have stepped up their attacks targeting Afghan officials and government sites. The Afghan government has frequently called on the Taliban to join the peace process, but the Taliban have shown no inclination to join the talks.
