The government today said Pakistan has acknowledged the custody of 633 fishermen and 49 civilian prisoners who are believed to be Indians. This information was given by the Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. Referring to the lists exchanged on 1st of this month, he said the India-Pakistan Agreement on Consular Access lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen of each country, lodged in the jails of the other, are exchanged on 1st January and 1st July of every year. &nbsp;<br />''&nbsp; &nbsp;<br />''The Minister said the government has asked Pakistan to expedite the release and repatriation of all Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners, who have completed their sentence and whose nationality has been confirmed and conveyed to Pakistan.<br />''&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<br />''The Minister said the government attaches the highest priority to the welfare, safety, and security of Indian fishermen. He further said as many as 2160 Indian fishermen and 57 fishing boats have been repatriated from Pakistan since 2014 following sustained efforts made by the government. The Minister added that 41 Indian prisoners were repatriated from Pakistan's custody during the year including the last instance of repatriation on 20th June this year. During the same period, India repatriated 24 Pakistani prisoners from its custody.
