Pakistani troops today opened fire on an Indian forward post along the Line of Control in Poonch sector which triggered retaliatory action from the Indian troops. Defence sources told AIR that Pakistani Army resorted to shelling of mortar besides automatic and small arms firing in a forward post in Shahpur Sector in Poonch district from 0930 hours today.
Sources added that Indian troops guarding the frontier gave befitting retaliation with equal calibre weapons, triggering exchanges which are still going on intermittently. However, no loss of life or property has been reported till reports last came in. Unconfirmed reports say that one jawan on this forward post, has been injured in sniper rifle shot by Pakistani troops.Our correspondent reports that the ceasefire violation in Shapur Sector today is the 2nd truce violation this year in Poonch sector.
On 29th January this year, there was a ceasefire violation in Balakote sector in Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district in which there had been no loss of life or property. Similar violation was committed on 15th September last year in Dera Dibsi in Mendhar tehsil with no loss of life or property reported. Defence sources say Pakistan has committed ceasefire violations 195 times along the Line of Control last year in Jammu & Kashmir. There have been 44 truce violations in 2010; 51 in 2011 and 93 truce violations in 2012 from the Pakistani side in Jammu & Kashmir.
