Satyasheel Yadav, a BSF jawan who was captured in Pakistani territory after being swept away by a strong current of the Chenab river in Jammu region, will be handed over by Pakistani Rangers to BSF authorities tomorrow in the afternoon. The assurance came from Pakistani authorities after a company commander level flag meeting was held this afternoon between Border Security Force and the Pakistani Rangers. Sources added that the stipulated time of handover of Indian trooper has been set at 3 P.M. after completing some formalities. Sources said Yadav is in good condition and is understood to have gone through some rounds of questioning by Pak intelligence and security sleuths.
Satyasheel Yadav was out on a patrol with three other BSF personnel in the Paragwal-Khour sub-sector of general area Akhnoor yesterday around 11 A.M., when the boat they were travelling in developed a problem. Officials said when the patrol squad was negotiating a narrow bend, the engine of the motorboat failed. Yadav got drifted in the strong current as the rope holding him snapped and he subsequently swayed to the Sialkot sector of Pakistan, where he was picked up by the villagers and handed over to the Rangers.
BSF Director General D K Pathak had earlier today said that the trooper had reached the Pakistan territory accidentally and he was not part of any action that the border guarding force was conducting yesterday when the incident happened.
India today took up the issue of return of BSF constable with Pakistan through diplomatic channels. The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner to India and raised the issue.
