Pak shells Indian posts in Poonch district of J&K, 5 civilians killed

In Jammu and Kashmir, heavy shelling and firing by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in Poonch district left five civilian killed and four others injured. Condition of some injured is reported to be critical. Police sources said, the forces from across the Line of Control resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on Indian position and some civilian areas in Balakote and Sabsian sectors yesterday. The firing was effectively retaliated by the Indian Army. <br/><br/>Defence PRO, Lt Col Manish Mehta told AIR that Pakistani troops resorted to firing of 60 mm and 82 mm mortar shells on forward posts and civilian areas along LoC in Mandi, Hamirpur and Saujiyan sectors of Poonch.<br/><br/>Firing and shelling in entire Balakot sector again broke out this morning. Heavy firing and shelling in Poonch Sector is continuing since midnight last night. Panic has been prevailing among the people living along the border and they have started migrating towards safer places. Continued shelling in certain areas has made the evacuation of affected people difficult.<br/><br/>Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has condemning the shelling of civilian areas by Pakistan. He said Islamabad should be told to stop military machinations to inflict miseries on the people of the state. Calling for immediate de-escalation of tension along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Sayeed urged the political leadership of Pakistan to respect and uphold the ceasefire put in place during 2003.
