Pak releases 17 Indian prisoners
Seventeen Indians languishing in different Pakistani jails for the past one to 10 years returned home through the Indo-Pak border at Attari near Amritsar. All the Indians, most of them incarcerated for inadvertently crossing over to Pakistan, could return on the basis of 'emergency travel certificate' issued to them by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
Pakistani authorities yesterday released them as a goodwill gesture, a day ahead of Foreign Secretary-level talks between the two countries. The prisoners were handed over to Border Security Force at the Wagah land border by Pakistan Rangers. Officials from Pakistan's Interior Ministry and the Indian High Commission in Islamabad were present on the occasion.
