Pak prisoner injured in Jammu jail airlifted to PGI Chandigarh, inquiry on

A Pakistani prisoner who was seriously injured in Jammu central jail after being beaten by another inmate has been airlifted to PGI Chandigarh after doctors said his condition was critical.

52-year-old Sanuallah, a resident of Sialkot in Pakistan, was immediately shifted from high-security Kot Balwal jail to Government Medical College hospital.

Sanuallah, who suffered serious head injuries, is serving a life term after being convicted under TADA provisions following his arrest in 1999.

Two prison officials including jail superintendent Rajni Sehgal have been suspended by the Jammu and Kashmir government which ordered an enquiry by Divisional Commissioner Jammu.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said, an inquiry is on into the attack on the Pakistan prisoner.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbarudin said, the Pakistan prisoner is receiving medical treatment and once medical arrangements are completed, consular access will be provided to Pakistan. He said, the government is ensuring all medical arrangments for treatment of the injured Pakistani prisoner.
