Pak President Zardari transfers control of nuclear weapons to PM Gilani

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has transferred control of the country's nuclear arsenal to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. He said, he intends to strip the Presidency of more powers by year-end.<br/><br/>Briefing the media in Islamabad on Friday night, Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said , Mr. Zardari gave up his control over the nuclear arsenal by re-promulgating the National Command Authority Ordinance and amending it. Mr. Babar described the move as a giant leap forward to empower the elected Parliament and the Prime Minister.<br/><br/>Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf was responsible for creating the National Command Authority and pushing through the 17th constitutional amendment to give himself sweeping powers.
