Pak Court refuses to adjourn hearing on amnesty petition of Zardari

Pakistan's Supreme Court today rejected the government's plea to defer the hearing of a petition seeking review of the verdict annulling a graft amnesty that benefited President Asif Ali Zardari. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said that the administration is not serious about the issue. The bench said there was no justification for the government's request for the case to be adjourned. The Apex court said the review petition will be taken up Wednesday by a 17-judge bench. The government of Pakistan filed an application last week seeking the adjournment of the hearing of the review petition as it needed time to file a new counsel for the case.
