Chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Dr.R K Pachauri today admitted the mistake in the panels report that the Himalayan glaciers will disappear by 2035 due to global warming. Terming the mistake as unfortunate, he said it is a human error and he will do everything possible to see that such mistakes are not repeated. He, however ruled out his resignation over the issue.

AIR correspondent reports that report became a point of discussions after its findings were challenged. Only yesterday Noted Geologist V K Raina while dismissing the findings of the panal sought an apology from Dr. Pachuri for debunking his findings.

AIR correspondent V.K. Raina reports that the Admission by Dr.Pachuri comes too late in the day. What could be its consequences are still not clear. With findings of the report in question, it is natural that the course of debate on the crucial issue will change at least in the Indian subcontinent. The environment ministers of the four BASIC countries meeting in New Delhi tomorrow will certainly reassess its impact on global warming.

The error was observed in certain quarters to pressurize India to toe a particular line in Copenhagen conference. The faulty assumption that the Himalayan Glaciers will melt by 2035 had created unnecessary tension to the people particularly those in India. People are relieved at least now.
