P Chidambaram voices concern over rise of intolerance in the country

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram today expressed his concern over rise of intolerance in the country. He said those who believe in liberty and democracy must protest against growing intolerance. <br/><br/>Addressing the session on the subject – Is India a liberal republic? – at the Times LitFest in New Delhi, Chidambaram said, India cannot be a modern liberal society until every idea that fosters inequality is eliminated.<br/><br/>The Congress leader said he has no hesitation in admitting that the ban on writer Salman Rushdie's book "Satanic Verses" by the then Rajiv Gandhi government was a mistake.
