Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs and Civil Aviation Mr. Vayalar Ravi arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday on a three day visit. Mr. Vayalar Ravi will be participating in the plenary session of the ‘Fourth Ministerial Consultation for Asian Labour Sending Countries’ scheduled to be inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday. The conference is part of the ‘Colombo Process’ initiative with the objective of facilitating greater regional dialogue and cooperation on the issue of management of labour migration amongst the major labour sending countries. The theme of the conference this year is Migration with Dignity. Eleven countries from Asia which include India Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are members of the Colombo Process. In addition to this, officials of nine labour importing countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen are also likely to attend the conference as observers.The meeting is likely to conclude on Thursday with a Dhaka declaration which will focus on protection of rights of migrant workers, orderly migration, transparency in recruitment process and enhancing mutual benefit of migration.
