Overall flood situation improves in Assam’s three districts

<br/>The overall flood situation in three districts of Barak valley of Assam is fast improving due to continuous fall in the water level of almost all the rivers of the valley. According to central water commission sources at Silchar, the largest river of the valley, Barak is receding fast and flowing about twenty centimetres below the danger mark. However, the River Kushiara is still flowing one metre above the danger level with falling trend at Karimganj.<br/> <br/>Meanwhile, the direct rail connection between three districts of the valley along with neighbouring Tripura and Mizoram states with the rest of the country remains disrupted for the fifth day on Tuesday following massive landslides at five different places in Badarpur-Haflong section of Northeast Frontier railway. AIR Silchar correspondent quoting railway sources reports that though the railway engineers and personnel are working on war footing to clear the debris and repairing of tracks but it will take at least four to five days to restore train services in this section. <br/> <br/>With the fast improvement in the flood sitation, the district administrations of Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj of the valley are now concentrating on the post flood preventive measures along with relief and rehabilitation works. As the long spell of over eighteen days of flood at a stretch in Karimganj district of the valley, the district administrations of the valley have deployed medical teams in all the flood affected areas of the valley fearing outbreak of epidemic in the flood affected areas.<br/>
