The ambit of the Integrated Action Plan, IAP, for naxal hit districts will be expanded to include even the backward districts which are not in the grip of naxal menace. Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia said that the action plan which will include 35 naxal districts will also cover other poor and backward districts.The Planning Commission recently given its nod for Rs. 13,742 crore package for the development of naxal hit districts. The proposal has been sent to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The plan spread over a period of three year is aimed at providing facililties like drinking water, electricity, roads, sanitations and health services.Speaking at a National conference on Forestry Administration in Naxal affected areas in New Delhi today, the Home Minister Chidambaram said that initially funds will be allocated for the 35 districts affected by Left-wing extremism and later it can be extended to other backward districts.Drawing the attention of the conference to the highest infant mortality rate and highest mortality rate among the forest dwellters, Chidambaram said that there is a need to bring education, senitation, nutritious food and quality drinking water to the people living in these areas. He said that abject poverty is the breeding ground for extremism.
