Children upto five years of age were administered anti-polio drops across the country today under the pulse polio campaign. In the national capital, Delhi over 8200 polio booths were set up to administer vaccine to lakhs of children. In Haryana, as many as 8.93 lakh children were covered during the first day of the Sub-National Immunisation round of Pulse Polio in 13 districts of the state. India is inching closer to becoming a polio free nation with the lowest-ever number of 42 polio cases recorded in 2010.Haryana Health Minister Rao Narender Yadav said, the campaign would continue for another two days by way of house-to-house activity to trace and administer polio drops to the left out children on booth day. He said, the drive was conducted to cover migratory population only in order to wipe out polio from the State. 5000 booths were setup in Haryana, manned by approximately 20,000 health officials.
