Over 82% polling in 5th phase of Assembly Polls in West Bengal

In West Bengal, over 82 percent polling was recorded for fifth phase of Assembly Elections in the state. The polling passed off peacefully barring few stray incidents. The State Election Department expects that, the poll percentage will go up as many people cast their votes till late evening. The fifth phase of polls took place in 38th seats covering parts of West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts amidst tight security.Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi said that the polling was peaceful and incident free. He said that there is no case of poll – bycott. He said that 109 preventive arrests had been made to ensure law and order during the election.Briefing newsmen in Kolkata this evening State Chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta said that, ten persons were arrested from Debra in West Midnapur district after a clash between CPI(M) and Trinamul Congress supporters. Altogether 62 EVMs were replaced from various polling booths for technical snag.
