Over 82% polling for fifth phase of Assembly Elections in WB

In West Bengal, over 82 percent polling was recorded for fifth phase of Assembly Elections in the state. The polling passed off peacefully barring a few stray incidents. The poll percentage is likely to go up as many people are still waiting at different booths for voting. The fifth phase of polls took place in 38th seats covering parts of West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts amidst tight security. State Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told our Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakraborty that, 78 EVMs were replaced from various polling booths for technical snag. Three presiding officers were removed from duties from West Midnapur and Purulia districts on account of illness and language problem. Two persons arrested from Burdwan district as preventive measures. Minor clashes were also reported from Burdwan and West Midnapur districts.
