Over 80 landslides in Sikkim;Geology team to assess land stability

In Sikkim, food items will be air dropped at Toong Naga today, about 45 kilometres off Gangtok, for distribution to people living in remote areas of north Sikkim. The State Chief Secretary, Karma Gyatso directed the district administration to take all measures for relief and rehabilitation of affected families. Our correspondent reports that about 80 landslides of various dimensions occurred at various places of north Sikkim in the last couple of days. The state administration has asked Army and BRO to meet the requirement of diesel and petrol supply till any further arrangement. The electricity supply in north district being provided through generators and water supply through tankers are expected to be restored within seven to ten days. Meanwhile, a team comprising mining and Geology experts will soon be deployed at vulnerable Mangan and Chungthang to assess its land stability.
