Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said that the government would soon finalise capital infusion for the PSU banks and the beneficiaries would include Indian Overseas Bank, Central Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra. Adressing a press conference after meeting the heads of public sector banks in New Delhi today that the government proposes to inject 15,000 crore rupees of capital in the PSU banks. Mr. Chidambaram said all Kisan Credit Cards will be converted into ATM Cards by March 2014 to provide easy access to farmers to agricultural credit.
The Finance Minister said the government will have to look at rising Non-Performing Assets, NPAs, sector wise and find ways and means to help them. He added that the NPA is reflection of the slowdown in the economy.
Referring to the filling of vacancies in banks, he said 63,200 people will be recruited by the end of this fiscal providing an opportunity to young men and women.
The Finance Minister reiterated the government's decision to roll out direct cash transfer scheme, he said the scheme will be launched in 51 districts spread over 16 states through Aadhaar-enabled cards from January next year.
