Over 60,000 illegal migrant workers deported in Saudi crackdown: Interior Minister

The Saudi Arabia Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef has said that the Kingdom has deported more than 60,000 illegal foreign workers in a crackdown over the past fortnight. He told in Riyadh yesterday that the deportations have taken place for the violation of the residency visa and the labour system and procedure is on in many other cases. He made it clear that the crackdown will continue. Nearly a million migrants including Indians, Bangladeshis, Filipinos, Nepalis, Pakistanis and Yemenis among them have left Saudi Arabia voluntarily taking advantage of the amnesty voluntarily. He also told that around four million were able to find employers to sponsor them.The Deputy Chief of the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, Sibi George told AIR that More than 14 lakh Indian nationals have availed of the concessions granted by the Saudi Government and legalized their status in the Kingdom. Nearly 4 lakh 35 thousand Indians transferred their services to other firms, around 4 lakh 81 thousand changed their jobs and over 4 lakh 70 thousand Indians renewed their licenses and job permits. He said that despite the return of expatriate Indians back home, the total number of Indians in Saudi Arabia has gone up and it continues to grow.
