The Chennai Corporation and the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority in a swift move today sealed buildings of over 60 commercial establishments in T.Nagar area. Several popular textile and Jewellery shops were sealed following a directive of the Madras High Court. The Court had appointed a Monitoring Committee to look into the issue of unauthorised constructions and building violations. The Committee, in turn, asked the CMDA and Chennai Corporation to initiate enforcement action against unauthorised constructions by issuing a ‘lock and seal' notice. T. Nagar, the commercial hub of the city, generates business worth several crores of rupees everyday.
