Over 60% of polling in 2nd phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal

In West Bengal, over 60 percent of polling is reported in the second phase of elections to the Assembly. 50 constituencies in 3 districts – Murshidabad, Nadia and Birbhum – are covered in this phase of polling. 293 candidates are in the fray. Over 93 lakh 51 thousand voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. Polling has been peaceful so far and tight security arrangements are in place for the voting. Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told AIR Correspondent that 53 Electronic Voting Machines have been replaced due to technical snag. Boycott of votes were also reported from 19 polling booths in districts on local issues.
