The Red Cross has estimated that around 30 lakh people in Haiti have been affected by Tuesday's earthquake and the death toll in the massive disaster could well be over 50,000. Rescue teams are making all efforts to find the survivors trapped in the debris. Countries across the world are in the process of reaching aid to quake hit Haiti.India has announced a cash assistance of one million Dollars to Haiti for immediate and emergency relief purposes. The External Affairs Ministry said, India is deeply saddened at the death and destruction caused by the earthquake. Communications with Haiti are currently difficult. The External affairs ministry also confirmed that all 140 personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed with the Headquarters of the UN mission in Haiti are safe.The United States is sending 3,500 troops and 2,200 marines and aid has only now, started to reach the survivors of the quake. Announcing relief for quake hit Haiti, US President Barack Obama said the island would not be forgotten in its hour of need. Mr Obama also promised an immediate 100 million dollar assistance for Haiti's relief efforts. The first 100-strong contingent from the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division was expected to arrive in Haiti by late Thursday. Aid groups said, Haiti was in urgent need of food, water, medical supplies and lifting equipment. People in Haiti are still spending the night without shelter or in makeshift camps in the ruined capital of Port-au-Prince and also under fear of aftershocks.Bodies are piling up in the streets and there is still no sign of a co-ordinated relief effort making an impact in the Island devasted by the Earth quake.
