Over 500 IRS officers being deployed in UP as expenditure observers

In Uttar Pradesh, more than 500 Indian Revenue Service officers are being deployed as expenditure observers in Assembly election to check misuse of money power and keep close eyes on expenditure of the candidates.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the full commission has expressed satisfaction over poll preparedness in the state. The Chief Election Commissioner Dr. SY Quraishi and other two Election Commissioners including VS Sampat and HS Brahma reviewed the poll arrangements during their two day visit to Lucknow. They also had a meeting with senior most officials from Income Tax Department. Meanwhile, 253 FIRs have been lodged till now for violation of model code of conduct. Similarly more than 7 crore rupees have been seized by surveillance team in different districts of the state.On the instruction of Election Commission the state excise department has launched drive against illegal and spurious liquors across the state and has arrested several persons involved in illegal distribution and preparation of liquor.
