Over 500 Athletes, delegates arriving in New Delhi tonight for CWG

Around 550 Athletes and delegates, from Australia, Canada and England are arriving in New Delhi on Monday night to participate in the Commonwealth Games. On Sunday night, players and delegates from eleven countries reached New Delhi. More than 1,100 delegates and athletes are living in the Commonwealth Games Village and some others are staying in hotels.The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi claimed that all major problems in the games village have been sorted out and majority of the flats are ready to be occupied. Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, who is overseeing the cleanliness drive, has said that games village will be fully ready by Wednesday. Mrs. Shiela Dikshit has taken exception to the CEO of Commonwealth Games Mike Hooper on his comments on Delhi's population. However, the Federation Chief Mike Fennell maintained that he and his colleague never blamed the Indian government for under preparedness nor made any disparaging comments about Indians.Delhi Government on Monday launched a special tourist bus service known as 'Hop-on Hop-off' for a smooth visit of tourists to historical places. It coincided with the World Tourism Day.Meanwhile, Tourism Ministry has ordered an inquiry into the collapse of the bed of a boxer in the Commonwealth Games village. Union Tourism Minister Km. Selja said that her Ministry is responsible for furnishing the games village and asserted whosoever is found guilty after the inquiry will be punished.After the launch of special bus service for tourists, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh released a book on the importance of historical monuments in Delhi. The book focuses on 46 monuments located within the core area of Commonwealth games. At the National Museum, a world class exhibition began which apart from depicting India-Canada cultural relations, focuses on art history. A festival of India is also on to present the cultural mosaic of the country. Many more such events will follow while the historical North and South Block housing the Presidential House, Prime Minister's office and other important Ministries, has been lit to attract the tourists. Food and fabric festivals are also on the anvil to bring to the fore the varied cuisine, dresses and ornaments of India.
