The 4th phase of Assembly polls in Jharkhand is over a shortwhile ago. Initial reports say over 50 percent of voters had cast their votes in this phase. The polling has been peaceful.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent Shambunath Choudhry reports from Ranchi that naxalites fired in the air at 2 places – Gumla and Ghartsila – to scare the voters but it did not deter the people from casting their votes. The final voting percentage in the state is yet to officially announced later in the evening.<br/><br/>As reported, voting began on a peaceful note in all the 14 constituencies at seven this morning and ended at 3.00 P.m. In this phase, Over 24 and a half lakh voters had exercised their franchise to decide the fate of 233 candidates in the fray for 14 seats. The Maoists, having a huge presence in all the constituencies, had given a call to boycott the polls. <br/> <br/>AIR correspondent adds that about 40,000 jawans and officers were deployed to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. Air surveillance in the poll-bound areas were taken up and adequate reserve strike force was in place to face any eventuality.
