Over 50 killed in a building collapse in East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar

A five-storey residential building collapsed in Lalita Park in East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area on Monday evening. Delhi's Health Minister Kiran Walia, who was at the spot, said that over 50 people have been killed and 65 others are injured. Several people are feared trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are on and the injured have been shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri and LNJP hospitals.According to eyewitnesses, at least 400-500 people were staying in the building which collapsed in the evening around 7.30. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said, 30 to 40 people are yet to be rescued. She orderd an inquiry into the incident.Speaking exclusively to AIR Correspondent, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Delhi Government, Kiran Walia termed the incident as shocking and agonizing and said that rescue operations are on.
