Over 44 lakh hectare area has been covered under plantation of sugarcane so far. According to data released by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, the covered area is around one lakh hectare more than the last year during the same period.

Normal area for sugarcane cropping is 47.45 lakh hectare. Higher area coverage of plantation has been reported from the states including Uttar Pradesh,Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
