Over 4000 donated eyes collected last year under National Programme for Control of Blindness

Over four thousand donated eyes were collected in December last year under the National Programme for Control of Blindness. The programme has goal to reduce the prevalence of blindness from 1.4 percent to 0.3 percent in the country. The scheme is aimed at reducing the backlog of blindness through identification and treatment of blind at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. It also works to enhance community awareness on eye care and lay stress on preventive measures.
