In Bihar, polling is underway in seven Lok Sabha constituencies- Madhepura, Madhubani, Jhanjharpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur reserved seat, Begusarai and Khagaria. Along with this polling, is also underway for by-election of Sahebpur Kamal assembly segment in Begusarai Parliamentary constituency.
AIR correspondent reports that elaborate security arrangements have been made for peaceful and fair polling.
Voting began at 7AM in all the 7 parliamentary constituencies here but voters are standing outside polling booths since early morning.
Voting will continue up to 6 pm, but in three naxal-affected Assembly segments Simri Bhaktiyarpur and Alloli in Khagaria and one Mahishi assembly segment in Madhepura parliamentary constituency voting will end at 4 PM.
Over 59,000 Central Para military forces and Bihar police are in action to conduct peaceful and fair polling, while two helicopters would be pressed into service for air surveillance. 2,227 micro observers have been also deployed.
Videography will be done at 502 booths and live webcasting will be carried out at 412 polling stations. A total of 94 candidates including 5 women are in the fray.
Prominent among them are JD(U) National President Sharad Yadav, BJP leader Kirti Azad, RJD leader Pappu Yadav and Ramvilas Paswan's brother Ramchandra Paswan. Over 1.13 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise. They include approx 4 lakh first time voters.
