Over 3,83,000 hectares area in different States covered with locust control operations till yesterday

Locust control operations have been done in an area of over 3,83,000 hectares in different States till the 21st of this month. Locust control operations have been undertaken in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Bihar.<br />'' <br />''The Ministry of Agriculture in a statement said that presently, 104 control teams with spray vehicles are  deployed in Rajasthan and Gujarat, and more than 200 Central Government personnel are engaged in locust control operations. It said, further, 5 companies with 15 drones are deployed at Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Nagaur and Phalodi in Rajasthan for effectively controlling locusts on tall trees and in inaccessible areas by spraying pesticides. <br />''<br />''Besides, a Bell helicopter has been deployed in the State for use in the Scheduled Desert Area as per the need. Indian Air Force also has conducted trials in anti-locust operation by using a Mi-17 helicopter. The results are encouraging.<br />''<br />''The Ministry said, no significant crop losses have been reported in the States of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Haryana. It said, however, some minor crop losses have been reported in some districts of Rajasthan.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The Ministry said, Food and Agriculture Organization's Locust Status Update indicates that the risk of swarm migration from the Horn of Africa prevails in the coming weeks. In Somalia, the swarms are moving eastwards and a limited number of swarms could migrate across the Indian Ocean to the Indo-Pakistan border area during the remaining period of this month.</span><br />
