Over 3000 complaints of violations by pvt banks handled by Ombudsman:Fin Min

All offices of the Banking Ombudsman in the country have handled 3318 complaints against private banks during the last two years and till March end in the current year for engaging in cheating activities by advertising attractive and alluring schemes in newspapers and television channels. The complaints were handled on non adherence to various provisions of Banking Codes and Standards Board of India (BCSBI).This information was given by the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, today. He said that out of the total complaints, 3058 had been disposed and 260 are still pending. He further said the Ministry of Corporate Affairs takes penal easures under Companies Act, 1956, besides creating a Special Task Force under Serious Fraud Investigation Office(SFIO).The SFIO investigates affairs of companies indulging in unlawful practice of collecting huge sums from public at large. Such complaints are also forwarded to the Economic Offences Wing of the concerned state for appropriate action.
