There is over 30 percent increase in the housing facility across the country.In 2001 there were 25 crore houses which has risen to 33 crores in 2011.According to the socio-economic census released by the Home Secretary R.K.Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday number of houses have increased from 25 crores in 2001 to 33 crores in 2011. It shows improvement in the quality of life.It says 2/3rd of households in the country have access to phones and LPGs. Over 63 percent people have telephones.About 87 percent of households now use tap, tube well, hand pump and covered wells as main sources of drinking water.But, around 36 percent households still have to fetch water from source located within 500 meters in a rural areas and 100 meters in urban areas. About 50 percent people having latrine facilities but defecation continues to be a serious problem.
