Around 3.12 crore Aadhaar cards have been generated in the country by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) till last month. The mandate of the UIDAI is to cover 600 million people by March 2014.

Official sources said Aadhaar aims at providing a soft identity infrastructure which can be used in the public delivery services.
