In Madhya Pradesh, Over 25 per cent turnout was recorded till 11 am. where peaceful polling is on in the ten parliamentary segments of Malwa-Nimad and Madhya regions.
These seats are Vidisha, Dewas, Indore, Dhar, Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsour, Khandwa, Khargoun and Betul. Mandsour recorded more than 33 per cent turnout while Indore recorded 25 per cent polling.
Over 20 per cent polling was recorded in Vidisha, Ujjain and Ratlam segments. Electronic Voting Machines were replaced at 33 places due to malfunction. Voting is also taking place for the bye-election of Vidisha legislative assembly segment.
More than one crore 69 lakh voters will decide the political fate of in all 118 candidates including 35 independents in this phase. Over 19 thousand four hundred polling booths have been set up.
Among prominent candidates are leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj from Vidisha, former union minister Kantilal Bhuria from Ratlam and state Congress president Arun Yadav from Khandwa. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the polling.
157 companies of central para-military forces, Rapid Action Force and Special Armed Force and 40 thousand police and home guard jawans have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls.
