Government today said that coal- based power production has increased by 21. 4 percent in last thee months. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, power minister Piyush Goyal said that government is committed to provide 24×7 power supply to every household within next five years.
Mr. Goyal said around 7,000 crore rupees has been invested in power grid security in the States. As many states have been facing power crises due to coal shortage, he said that coal India Limited will buy 250 more rakes worth rupees five thousand crore rupees to meet the target of one billion tone coal production by 2019.
To increase power generation efficiency, the minister said that old power plants of 32,000 Mega Watt capacity will soon be modernised. He said that ongoing coal linkage rationalization will save hundreds of crores of rupees of transportation costs by linking power plants to nearest mines. Mr Goyal also said that hydel power production remained low due to deficient monsoon.
