Over 2 lakh villages have become open defecation free: Smriti Irani

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and for Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani today said over 2 lakh villages of country have become open defecation free, ODF, in response to Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's call for Swachh Bharat. <br/><br/>Mrs Irani attributed the credit of this success to people of India thanking them for responding to PM's Independence day speech three years ago.<br/><br/>She was addressing people in village Kendri near Chhattisgarh capital Raipur after participating in a Shramdaan programme under 'Swacchata hi seva' campaign along with Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh. <br/><br/>On the occasion, Mrs Irani said, 'swacchata' itself is the biggest symbol and form of 'seva'. <br/><br/>Remembering Mahatma Gandhi's quote that India's soul rests in its villages, she said the Prime Minister started Swachh Bharat to keep this soul clean. <br/><br/>Minister Smriti Irani also congratulated people and administration of Abhanpur block of Raipur for constructing record 10 thousand toilets within a span of just 10 days. <br/><br/>The Union minister is also addressing a public rally in Mandir Hasaud village near Raipur. Various developmental works of 146 crores rupees are being launched on the occasion.
