Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said that 2 crore 49 lakh people are getting benefit under National Food Security Act in Assam. Talking to newspersons in Guwahati last evening, he said, the Centre allots 1 lakh 35 thousand metric tonnes of rice and over 5 thousand tonne of wheat to Assam per month. <br/><br/>The Minister said that procurement of paddy in Assam is the priority of the government, and Food Corporation of India has procured 53 thousand metric tonnes of paddy so far this year against targeted 55 thousand metric tonnes. <br/><br/>The Minister said that by inviting private investment for construction of godowns, a 25 thousand metric tonnes capacity godown is being constructed at Barpeta Road.
