Over 2.23 lakh houses constructed for urban poor in last 2 years

Over two lakh 23 thousand houses have been constructed for urban poor under the old and new housing programmes during the last two years. This was informed by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.<br/><br/>Out of these houses, years, Tamil Nadu has built 37,355 dwelling units followed by Maharashtra with nearly 37000 houses. West Bengal has built 22,620 houses followed by Rajasthan with over 21,000 dwelling units.<br/><br/>The Minister stated that these houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) launched in June last year and the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission and Rajiv Awas Yojana. <br/><br/>He informed that the Government has decided to support housing schemes under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission and Rajiv Awas Yojana till March next year.
